WDW 50th

After 11 years Ros and I are finally getting back to WDW so we can catch the tail end of the 50th celebrations. There has been so much change since we last went and sounds like there’ll be more change before we get there. We’ll be there for 9 days at the end of January so hopefully crowds will be down a little. Can’t wait!

How exciting! You'll be leaving not long before I arrive (mid Feb). My last trip was 2015 and there's been loads of changes since then so I can't imagine how different it will be for you. Hopefully EPCOT will have their 40th celebration for a few months so we can also enjoy that.

That is exciting. I'm going to be really interested to hear how it all goes, especially the pricing of things. All the news these days seems to be about the costs going up so I'll be interested in learning from real world experiences.

That's awesome - we went at the end of January in 2019 and it was very quite. It rained a bit and was cold, but no crowds - it was terrific.

When you say "cold" do you mean Alaska cold or Florida cold?

It was unseasonably cold - like a Sydney winter. Definitely needed layers! It rarely got above about 15 when we were there - just one of those years. Didn't you get snow in Key West when you went on the cruise all those years ago?

15 degrees sounds perfect. Not too hot and not too cold but certainly not what I would expect in Florida; which reminded me of Queensland in a lot of ways.

I do seem to remember getting snow but it may have come in a cone. Or are you having Miami Vice flashbacks?

LOL - I just realised I was replying to you and not Anthony. I'm pretty sure he was there in January many years ago and the officially had snow when a storm blew down from the north. It can get cold in January in Florida - just ask the crew of the Space Shuttle Challenger...

Yes we’ve been previously this time of year and yes we saw snow at both Orlando and at Key West. Didn’t settle but it was there. We’re expecting cold weather. We’re starting in San Fran and going to NY after the cruise so we’ll be prepared.

Fingers crossed we won't experience that again. But the way the global climate is going, anything is possible.

Now I'm trying to imagine a genuine white Christmas at WDW. I wonder what contingency plans they would have in place for that.

Sounds like a fantastic trip - I do love San Fran and NYC. I'm looking forward to any stories you can post on your time in WDW. More and more is being released about the Festival of the Arts and I'm getting super excited!
