Disneyland Express has ceased

Postby KeithS » Sun Jan 19, 2020 9:37 am

For those that haven't heard, the Disneyland Express bus service from LAX to Anaheim ceased operating on 7 Jan this year. This follows the closing down of Super Shuttle nationally and really limits the options for Australian tourists visiting Disneyland who don't want to drive themselves.

The official Disneyland website's only public transport option is to catch a Metro train to Norwalk then catch a commuter bus to Anaheim!! Can you imagine doing that at 6am after a 13 hour flight? The other options are Uber or Lyft ride share services which is useless if you have kids that require booster chairs.

So unless you are willing to hire a car, your options for the time being are severely restricted until some enterprising person comes up with a new service.

Just something to consider if you are planning a Disneyland trip. I think this will have a negative effect, especially on foreign tourists visiting who don't want to drive themselves. Looks like I'll stick to WDW and the Asian parks for a while.

Interested to hear other people's thoughts on this.

Our travel agent has booked us through a company called Karmel Shuttles, we're at DL in September.  If no-one else has reviewed them before we go, I'll let everyone know how they were.

Thanks Anthony - yes, we'll be very interested in know how that goes.  Especially pragmatic things like where you get picked up from; what the vehicle is like; how many loops of the airport you take before heading onto the highway; expected gratuity - all that stuff :)

Bugger. Ease of public transport is a big factor in my deciding where to travel. Being able to jump on a train from the airport and get to (or close to) where I'm staying is vital. This will influence me.

This is also one of the many reasons why I don't like the Gold Cost airport.

On our trip we're flying into LA from Seattle and I asked my TA to fly us into John Wayne, but unfortunately because we're booked on the international ticket, we had to fly into LAX.  But if it's possible, using John Wayne would be a real alternative because it's half the distance closer.

When we travelled in November I had pre-booked Super Shuttle.  It was the week of Thanksgiving (Sunday night before) and we waited 90 minutes for the shuttle to arrive.  The trip to the hotel was quite fast, but we had already decided uber would be the way to go next time, even though it is a pain to get on a shuttle now to get to where uber can pickup. I've heard it can still be a fair wait for ubers though.  We also flew into Portland on this trip and they have a really great uber system - you request a ride and they give you a 6 digit code, which you hen give to the next available driver.  Much easier than looking out for the right car.
We flew out to Texas on Thanksgiving morning and i booked a flight from John Wayne (something i'd never done before).  Even in pouring rain the uber took 15 mins - google maps was estimating 1hr and 9 mins to get to LAX!!!!

I've never used Disneyland Express but we generally used Super Shuttle in any city we could so this will be more thinking for getting to and from airports which I'm in the USA.

Looking forward to the review of Karmel which may be our only option.

I have used John Wayne which was very convenient, however as mentioned we can only used this for internal flights and even then it's not always easy getting a flight there.
