just had a look and there is still 2 left, one of Scuttle and one of Flounder & Sebastion. No Ariel ones left though, had to have quick fingers for those :)

I knew a man on the Gold Coast who was a retired animator (had his own studio in Sydney) and he had met Walt Disney way back when and had been given a large number of production cels, including a massive panoramic cel from Snow White with the matching background, that had been signed by Walt. I could spend hours just staring at it.

He also had drawers full of production cels from all of the classic Hanna Barbera cartoons (Scooby Doo etc) because his studio was doing a lot of the animation for them back in the 60's and 70's.

All of this stuff was just sitting in drawers in his garage.

Wow - that's awesome!

Everyone seems to have forgotten the rich animation history in Sydney. Most of the Hanna Barbera cartoons were made here in Sydney in the 1960's-1980s, until the animation studio here was sold...to Disney! Disney of course went on to make a lot of straight to DVD features here in Sydney, including the Cinderella sequels, Peter Pan, Bambi 2, etc - until they were closed down around 2004-05 during the hand-drawn purge at Disney. We had a number of the Disney animators as members of our club for quite some time, but now most of them moved on to ordinary jobs and left animation behind.

Its so sad to think that with everything done by computer these days that soon there wont be much left like that around. Gradually over time things will get lost or accidently destroyed or damaged. :(

There are all of those stories of cels being washed or buried in landfills because the studios didn't see that anyone would want to actually buy them. Stories like this floated around in the 90's Animation Art boom when I was buying my stuff.
