So, if Disney offered cruises out of Sydney, that just sailed around for a week without docking, would you be interested? I can understand wanting to visit ports if you have traveled a long way just to get to the ship and the ports are somewhere you haven't been before.

For myself, a week on a Disney themed ship, leaving from just up the road, would be really tempting if the price was right.

Greg
I have done a 3 day cruise just out to sea before, and I think that's as long as I'd want to go without touching dry land.  A week would be too long for me unless I just wanted somewhere warm to sit by a pool... but then Bali would be cheaper for that I imagine, so I think a week would be too long.

This is an interesting question.  We did five days at sea on the Wonder from Vancouver to Hawaii and we loved every minute of it.  That cruise only had 1,500 guests so it was only about 60% capacity (and mostly adults too) and they had really catered for extra entertainment and things to do like the backstage tours of the ship (galleys, theatres etc).  We enjoyed the ports in Hawaii - we'd never avoid getting off the ship when on a cruise - but it really was the ship itself we enjoyed.  The only problem I'd see with a Sydney cruise to nowhere is that it would probably be attractive to those wishing to go on a booze-cruise...I don't know whether I'd like to be on a Disney ship with a bunch of lagered-up Aussies!

But would it attract that type of cruiser, given the Disney branding and the increased possibility of kids everywhere?
I'm sort of comparing it to going to a Disney park, staying onsite the whole time and only having the "Disney experience".

We also found it hard to plan what activities to do as the kids would call to get out of the kids' club, or refuse to either go in or do what we were planning.  I think they were just a bit tired and grumpy after the time at WDW and reading it back it sounds like we had a miserable time, which was just not the case!
What was the problem they had with the kids club?
Greg
My kids are pretty shy and I think it took a while for them to warm up to the idea of a new place with new people.  Ben cried on the last night when we took him out for the last time so they definitely ended up loving it - it just took them until the end of the cruise to do so!

Okay, that sounds pretty standard for kids. I thought it may have been an issue with the Club itself.

I'd go on a non-stop cruise, but then I'd go on any Disney cruise. Speaking with friends of ours in the US on xmas day, we've committed to inaugural sailings on one of the new ships, with the same people we met on the inaugural sailings of Fantasy. Very excited.

How strangely would a single, middle aged man be looked at on a Disney Cruise?

Surprisingly not strange at all Greg. However if you mingled around certain spots wearing dark glasses, a pulled down baseball cap and a trench coat, I'm sure that would ring some alarm bells

But that's my style!  :-)

As soon as Disney introduces a Casino on their ships I'll be applying for a job though.

Just thought I'd add this in here...
Recently a friend sent me a screen shot from the Disney Blog about discontinued merch from the cruise and what might replace it.  It would appear I have deleted it in a frenzy of making space recently, but wanted to pass on what it said.  The conversation went along the lines of what might be new on the Disney Cruises and it then had a photo of hair clips with the words Believe and Imagine made out of metal on them... which in itself wasn't that weird, but the fact that two other words in the text referring to the ships in the caption on the photo were crossed out and the words Believe and Imagine were written in as obvious replacements made it look a LOT like it was a big juicy hint on what was also going to be new in Disney Ships ... perhaps even names?  pretty sure someone here called it a while back.  Kicking myself that I don't have it anymore... but anyhoo.

As luck would have it, I happened upon the post on the blog a few days ago and thought I'd share the actual wording so you can ponder for yourselves.  It did indeed accompany a photo of hair pins with metal words attached reading Believe, Imagine and Dream - stock from the DCL shops on board.  This is the caption with the photo ( written by Disney) "Can you Disney Believe these are hair clips.  Just Disney Imagine the possible future uses.  "   The words Disney have a line through them, but for some reason I can't make it do it on here.

Am I right?  has to be a hint right?

Looks as though this one slipped through the cracks.  A rendering of the new ships has been released, and there does appear to be a small design difference with these ones.  I can't post pictures, so I'll just post the link to the story instead.

My fault I didn't post it earlier - I've just been tied up with overseas visitors (my aunt and uncle from the UK) so I've only been lurking here occasionally and not posting.  They've gone home now, so I should be able to pop in here a bit more often!
Image
I like the render of the new ships - the curved sides seem to be fairly common now for new ship design.  I see there is a sort of vague water coaster on top, but I suspect that Disney will opt for something other than just a copy of the Aquaduck - I'll guess we'll probably know more in 12 months or so.  These ships don't take long to build once they commence - so it'll still be a while before they begin construction for a 2021 launch.

I'm curious what they'll be called. Emily and I are sitting here now speculating. We reckon one could be called Wish (Wishes) but can't come up with a second.
Congratulations Anthony!!! You and Emily get a gold star for your 2016 prediction!!!
Disney Wish it is - and Rapunzel is hanging off the stern painting the name.
