Desert Island Disney

Just curious...if you had to limit yourself to just one aspect of "Disney", be it comics, animation, theme parks, live action movies etc, what would it be?

Interesting question. I'd toss up between parks and music. I love the music, but I'd lean toward the parks.

I'm still trying to come up with an answer myself. The problem, and the thing that Disney do so well, is that everything seems to be tied together so well. Would the parks be as good if you had no idea who the characters were?

I'd probably stick to cruising, because even if I didn't know the characters etc, I'd still have a great time based solely on the service and the destinations.

I think it would be an impossible ask once you had only been exposed to  more than one... but honestly I can't think of a time I was only exposed to one.  My earliest memories are watching Wonderful World of Disney on TV AND reading Disney comics to fall asleep in the same time frame. I think I would choose parks because its so immersive and I'm more a collector of memories rather than stuff.  Don't get  me wrong, I LOVE the stuff, but if I had to choose, assuming prior exposure to all of it, The parks ( and the cruises as a close second) would be my pained and tear-filled choice.

I guess I was really wondering if you would enjoy cruising or the parks if you didn't know who all these characters were. If you chose just the movies then you could probably get by without the parks.

Disney's ability to tie it all up in such an expansive and immersive package is really what impresses me. Something for everyone.

Another question...is it the cruising or is it the "Disney" distilled down and in such a compact environment. Would a compact Disney resort work in a place like Australia?

I'd be worried about a compact Disney experience. It works spectacularly on the cruise ships, but I think a compact park would just make everyone feel ripped off compared to overseas offerings. Look at the bad reputation Hong Kong originally had and is only now beginning to over come and that was more than a compact park.

I may have used the wrong word when I said resort. I was thinking more of a "gated community" type of holiday resort than a small theme park. Think of a cruise ship that doesn't go anywhere.

Sort of like Aulani I guess. I think there would be scope for that if the cruise line came here, but until then I don't see that investment happening.

I think an Aulani type offering or an amalgam of something like Aulani and something you'd see in North Queensland would work here. Australia, I believe is screaming for something different, and when it comes it will succeed. The only danger then does it become a fad or sustainable.

The advantage that Disney has over another theme accommodation place is the ever-growing list of theming possibilities. Pirates of the Caribbean area can be changed to Frozen to Marvel to whatever to keep it fresh and attracting new guests.

That is their strength, but at times can be their weakness. They tend to flog things beyond their life span, Frozen being a good example. The over marketing and theming of Frozen is dividing people, for example, with the changes happening at Norway.
