Club Trip Associated Press article

I recieved an email from the Associated Press Travel Editor in New York who had heard of the club trip and was looking for more info! I passed the email on to Wayne and also emailed Beth back asking if I could reproduce her email here. She responded that it would be fine as she "would love to talk to anyone going on that trip!" If anyone wants to email her directly this may be an opportunity to get the club some great international exposure.

Heres her original email:

Hi! We might be interested in writing a story about your around-the-world Disney tour! I think it is absolutely fantastic!!!

About how many people do you think might go – are we talking a dozen or three dozen or 100?

Can you give me some demographics – mostly singles, couples, families? How many kids, what ages? Isn’t school in session that month?

Have most of these folks been to most of these parks? I would assume the Tokyo and HK parks are the least-visited among your devotees.

And how is it that the global Disney fan group is located in AUSTRALIA????

Which date do you expect to be at the Hong Kong park?

Beth's email is BHarpaz(at)ap.org just swap the (at) for @

I had to tell her that I wasn't going on the trip :( but that some of the people going might contact her.

Hi Greg, we haven't seen you around for a couple of days - I trust all is well up there (thought you'd be joining in on the pirate jokes :) )

Wow - this is very interesting! I'm happy to send Beth an email from a travellers perspective, and I guess Wayne is responding from the Club side of things - I'll catch up with him on the phone later. I wonder how AP became aware of the trip?

Anyway, I'm excited by this whole deal! It would be great to have some coverage of our trip and promote the club! It might also spur others who have been sitting on the fence to come and join us.

Speaking of spurring others -how come we have so many members and so few posters?

Well I've sent Beth an email letting her know what it means to me and Della to be travelling around the world for a Disney-fix, and I've spoken to Wayne who says he will email her about the club and the trip.

She is out of the office until Monday - so we might get a response in the coming days. I'll let you know if we hear anything.

(Wow, that is my 300th post and gives me a D-Ticket - that is about 290 more messages than I've ever posted on any other forum :) )

Okay, we got a response from AP in NY today - looks like the story is going ahead :)

They will be meeting us in Hong Kong - details to be confirmed. I suppose we'd better think of something clever to say!

There was a big spike in the number of hits on the site as soon as the article went out. It was good of them to include the URL. It must have been picked up by a number of papers because the hits have been coming from all over. If we get a few new members from australians who didn't know we existed then that'll be great but I don't know if it's appeared in any Australian papers.

Great to hear. I can see a TV travel series coming out of this...it all depends on whether we can come up with a member good looking enough to host it. 8)

Maybe I wasn't being completely clear, guys. I meant me! I'd be willing to give up my job and suffer through all that international travel to Disney properties around the world, as long as it was to the benefit of the club.

So why does it have to be one of the blokes?

I'm sure some of the girls here would put their hands up too...
course all for the benefit of the club.... :D

Okay, topless shots all round and then I'll put up a poll so we can choose the official face of DUD.

We better do it before the rest of them get back though because they'll probably think that having appeared in newspapers around the world gives them an edge. :D
