The Lisa Files Quiz No. 8 - Night Moves

Postby mushu mama » Tue Sep 02, 2008 12:12 pm

Now this one originated from a discussion with friends and is another nosy neighbour one :D .

Some people are more locked into their rituals than others, being creatures of habit. I just thought it might be interesting to explore a few of these...

Starting with everyones Night moves.

For instance, I noticed recently that regardless of what time I finally walk away from my PC in the wee hours of the morning, I still go around the house doing exactly the same stuff ( with the added 'what I need for tomorrow' component) to 'finish' the day and prepare for the next.

I really assumed that all the mothers in the group that I first posed the question with would be reasonably similar but to my surprise they were VASTLY different. So I thought I'd pose the question here to see what everyone does before their head hits the pillow for the night.

so here is your task:
What do you do, as a matter of course ( and you can leave out the details of any amourous activity... cos you might make the ones getting less 'how's your father' jealous and theres a naughty room for that  ) before you call it a day.
The pictures were fun last time so feel free to go there again if it helps illustrate your routine. I'm sure someone will find the current state of your toothbrush infinitely fascinating or perhaps those Mickey feet slippers that have been loved to death...
Maybe there is a Disney tie in that you do every night... like kiss you favourite fluffy good night or something....

I timed how long it took me to go from computer to bed last night and it was nearly 3/4 of an hour...

So lets see if we Disney people are any different to the wider world in the night-night stakes...

Lisa. -/

PS: I have the day off today so took the time to re-read all the previous 7 quiz threads... they still had me in stitches... there is something very special about my Disney family. :D You rock. -/

Ok I come home and cook dinner, making school lunches at the same time. After we eat I have a shower and put on my flannelette pjs and socks. I wear these year round - I do not feel the heat!

The kids go to bed from 8.30 - 9 and I just tidy up until then. At 9.30 Peter and I normally watch something together, usually something we have on dvd. Head to bed around 11 and if there is none of that stuff that Lisa is jealous about we both fall asleep listen to meditations on our seperate iPods.

How boring!

This is a little difficult for me to answer.

If you literally mean night time then I wake up, shower, shave, get dressed and go to work.

If you mean post work then that is when my day is just beginning, the sun has only just come up and I can do anything I want.

Ok then... when you wind down before sleeping.... regardless of where the sun is at, at the time.
That make it easier? :D

In that case I just crawl into bed with my pda and read whatever novel I'm in the middle of. I have a rule about only reading non-fiction out of bed and only fiction in bed before I go to sleep. That's why I have a stack of history books and National Geographics beside my chair in the library and hundreds of ebooks I've downloaded to be put on the pda that lives beside my bed.

Not to say that is a bad thing... I have a few rules too, they're just not so detailed. :D

Without rules I would just do what I wanted and have fun and we can't have that now, can we?

Ok, well, I suppose seeing as I started all this, I should outline my pre-shut eye rituals.

Ok...

Walk away from the computer. ( this is the tough bit and is generally between 1 and 2am)
Hang up the load of clothes that I have inevitably washed during the course of the evening.
Load Dishwasher and turn on so there are dishes for breakfast.
Turn off the TV and ceiling fan that Millie always leaves on.
Check the doors are all locked.
Get out stuff I need for or before work tomorrow ( ipod, lunch, vitamins for the morning, gym gear).
Head for my bathroom - do the usual ablutions... remove makeup, brush teeth, once a week micro-dermabraision; take out the contacts.
Turn Millies light off and put the book that she has fallen asleep reading on her night stand. ( this is an EVERY NIGHT thing)
Remove jewelery.
Change into either jammies or not ( depending on the weather)
Move the fluffies off the bed.
Set my Donald Duck alarm ( which talks in a Minnie Mouse voice  ) and turn off the Mickey Mouse lamp.
Lay there and post mortem the day in my head while thinking the most delicious thoughts I can muster. MY rule is to finish the day thinking nice thoughts.

There you are... then I drift blissfully into the land of nod. :D

What do I do? Hmmm...

I turn off the computer (like I'm about to do).
Go to the bathroom a clean teeth.
Back to kitchen to grab a drink - usually water to put beside my bed.
Change into boxer shorts - I have Cars, Winnie the Pooh, Ford Racing, Tokyo Disneyland, Hong Kong Disneyland, Homer Simpson - all sorts of pop culture ones.
I don't prepare anything for the next day - I do all that in the morning.
I crawl into bed...
...then switch on my other PC! (yeah, I know - sad...)
Then I surf the web (usually a scan of news websites looking for stories related to my work that'll be hot topics the next day)
Then I set my alarm clock.
Then I shut down the PC and go to sleep.
zzz...zzz...zzz...zzz
Alarm goes off at 6am if I'm working in Sydney, or 4am if I'm traveling interstate (grrr...)

You have a PC beside your bed?

Now that is really really bad fung shui. (not that I'm much better by the way, I have a TV in my room which is also bad feng shui).

I have a PC with a TV card built in - so I can do both simultaneously - that must be really really really bad feng shui :D
